Pardon me for being a little behind, but here's the first of a couple updates on the travels so far!
Over the Memorial Day Weekend, I headed into New York City with forty or so other very talented designers for the National Design Portfolio Review!!
On Thursday morning I left my little car in Knoxville and carpooled my way up to New Jersey with Chris Pickart, head of scenic design at the University of Tennessee. We had a lovely time chatting all the way to our divey little hotel just outside of the state line where we met Nevena!
Friday morning we fueled up on diner food and headed to set up our portfolio stations.
That evening we went to the Signature Theatre to see one of the final previews for Sweetee, a new musical currently running. It was fabulous! And we even ended up sitting behind Broadway legend, Harold Prince! (I think I might've accidentally kicked his chair).
Saturday was a busy day. We got in to the review at 8:30am and didn't leave until nearly 8:00pm. We saw old friends from UT, new friends from Arkansas, and a smattering of industry professionals. It was quite an adventure.
It was great to catch up with old friends and meet so many new faces. Even though I won't be moving to New York anytime soon, I am glad to know that I have friends the next time I pass through.
Next Stop: Asbury Park, NJ!
